Calgary Gay History Project – Researcher Kevin Allen’s project to document and profile the experiences of LGBTQ2IA+ people historically in Calgary. “I am curious about what life was like for gay people in Calgary in the middle of the last century. This project also has an oral history preservation agenda; I hope to document stories from LGBTQ elders in Calgary whose stories should be recorded before they are lost.”

Fairy Tales Calgary’s Queer Film Festival - Over the last 20 years, Fairy Tales, Calgary's Queer Film Festival, has grown from a fledgeling, volunteer-run off-shoot of The Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers, to become one of Canada’s largest LGBTQ2A+ film festivals. “Building community and providing a platform for queer artists, activists and educators is a big focus of our festival. By bringing together local and international voices, we’re able to have diverse conversations that allow for education and connection.” (James Demers, Executive Director of Calgary Queer Arts Society)

Femme Wave - Femme Wave is a feminist arts festival that takes place on Treaty 7 territory and the traditional territory of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), Nakoda (Stoney), and Tsuut’ina, also known as Calgary, Alberta. Founded in 2015, it is a collective-run organization with board and committee members of diverse and varying backgrounds. The festival takes place annually across multiple inner-city venues and has enjoyed considerable growth since its inception.

Gay Calgary Magazine – Free digital and print YYC publication that is inclusive of the LGBTQ2IA+ community and provides news and an extensive LGBTQ2IA+ community resource directory.

Sled Island - Since 2007, Sled Island's thoughtful, eclectic programming and independent spirit have fused to produce a one-of-a-kind festival experience. Each June, the five-day music and arts festival brings together a community of more than 250 bands, comedy, film and art as well as over 30,000 attendees in more than 35 venues, earning rave reviews from attendees, artists and media across the globe. Everyone has the right to feel safe and included at Sled Island regardless of age, ancestry, colour, family status, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, mental disability, physical disability, place of origin, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or source of income.

Intergenerational LGBT Artist Residency - the first intergenerational artist-in-residency program for LGBTQ2 visual artists in Canada. The residency offers studio space, travel support and free room and board to juried applicants for the duration of the two-week residency. Residents also receive mentoring and studio visits from critically acclaimed artists and curators. Please pass along this information to 2SLGBTQIA+ artists in Canada, of any age, whether established or emerging, whom you think might be exceptional candidates and who would benefit greatly from this programme.
